How we are regulated

AIG Australia Limited ABN 93 004 727 753 AFSL 381686 is a wholly owned subsidiary of American International Group, Inc. (AIG), headquartered in New York.

AIG Australia is a general insurer authorised by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority and holds an Australian financial services licence issued by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.

AIG Australia Limited is signatory to the General Insurance Code of Practice (“Code”). The Code sets out the minimum standards of service that can be expected from the insurance industry and requires insurers to be open, fair and honest in their dealings with customers.

 

We are committed to adhering to the objectives of the Code and to uphold these minimum standards when providing services covered by this Code. The Code objectives will be followed having regards to the law and acknowledging that a contract of insurance is a contract based on the utmost good faith.

The Code Governance Committee is the independent body that monitors and enforces insurers’ compliance with the General Insurance Code of Practice. Their purpose is to drive better Code compliance, helping the insurance industry to improve its service to consumers.

AIG’s Product Design and Distribution Policy (Customer) details our product design approach and standards that ensure AIG’s products are appropriate in meeting our customers needs.

This policy supports AIG’s values and culture, high standards of conduct and the behaviour expected of all AIG’s employees and our service partners. 

The Modern Slavery Act 2018 requires reporting entities subject to the Act, to produce an annual modern slavery statement. This statement outlines how we, and our third-party supply chain, will ensure compliance with the requirements of the Act.

As such, we have developed internal processes and controls to assist us in identifying and managing the risk that Modern Slavery may be taking place in our business or third-party supply chains.
