AIG Australia Confirms Position For Brindabella Travel Insurance Policy Holders

SYDNEY, Australia, 24 December 2013 - AIG Australia (AIG) is committed to providing a fair and honest claims service to travel insurance policy holders affected by Brindabella Airlines entering into receivership.

Under AIG’s Brindabella travel insurance policy, claims are excluded if they arise from the financial default or insolvency of any airline or transport provider. This would include the receivership (please refer Ticket and Baggage Insurance policy General Exclusion 17 on page 13).

However, policy holders should take note of the following circumstances in which refunds/claims will be considered:

  • AIG will refund premium paid in accordance with the “cooling off period” (Section 2 on page 6 of the Brindabella Airlines – Ticket and Baggage Insurance Policy) if policy holders contact AIG within 14 days of purchasing the policy, and policy holders have not yet travelled and have not made a claim.

  • All other claims not arising from Brindabella entering receivership are not excluded by General Exclusion 17 and will be considered, subject to all remaining terms, conditions and exclusions.

Before AIG can consider a refund, or provide advice on a refund, travellers should:

  1. Access KordaMentha’s (the appointed receiver) website for important information regarding the receivership and next steps for customers (www.kordamentha.com, refer to the creditor section for FAQs).

  2. Contact their credit card supplier where applicable, for a refund of flights that are unable to be honoured by Brindabella.

AIG is currently working with Brindabella Airlines and KordaMentha to arrange all applicable refunds as soon as possible.
