On 30 May 2017, the NSW Government announced it was deferring the introduction of the new Fire and Emergency Services Levy to be paid alongside council rates that was due to commence on 1 July 2017. The Government stated that ESL will continue to be collected via insurance policies until the completion of the reform policy review.
The changes in law to defer the introduction of the new Fire and Emergency Services Levy and continue charging ESL commenced on 1 July 2017. AIG Australia is preparing to recommence collection of ESL on property-based insurance.
